Overview
Kenya Vision 2030 aims at transforming Kenya into a globally competitive prosperous country with a high quality of life by 2030. In this regard, the Government of Kenya has placed the promotion of decent work, skills development and sustainable job creation at the centre of its development agenda.
In aligning skills supply to skills demand towards bridging the skills mismatch, the State Department for Labour and Skills Development has been mandated, under Executive Order No. 2 of 2023, to oversee skills development among actors and establish sector specific skills councils; and to establish and manage the institutional framework for linking industry, skills development and training.
It is in this context, that the following 12 industry-led Sector Skills Committees have been established. These Committees are required to specify sector skills requirements to mitigate imbalances between skills supply and demand, provide sectoral labour market information, develop occupational standards to ensure that skill levels match job requirements and create jobs among other functions
